Scenting Willy Wonka (1971)
Snivure, in collaboration with Scented Storytelling, reimagined the 1971 classic through a multisensory screening that transformed cinema into an event of taste, smell, and tactile surprise.
At the heart of the experience was the Whiff & Wonder Box: a foiled package designed by Michelle French and Jas Brooks (Snivure). The box opened in layers, revealing scratch-and-sniff surfaces, edible confections, and hidden compartments reminiscent of an advent calendar. Guests were invited to journey through the film alongside Charlie, guided by scent and taste as much as by sight and sound.
The screening unfolded as a sequence of sensory cues. The smell of chocolate filled the air as audiences entered. A spray of bubbles drifted across the room. Scratch-and-sniff panels released the acrid note of Slugworth’s bad breath, the swelling sweetness of blueberry inflation, and the creamy pull of the chocolate river (both smelled and eaten). Guests tasted three edibles, cracked open a surprise popper, and felt the snap of tongue-crackling teleportation with Mike Teavee.
