Scenting Female Trouble (1974)
In 2024, Snivure collaborated with Scented Storytelling to celebrate the 50th anniversary of John Waters’ cult classic Female Trouble (1974) with a one-of-a-kind Smell-O-Rama experience. Presented at the Sydney Underground Film Festival, the film was accompanied by scratch-and-sniff cards, transforming Waters’ outrageous vision into a multi-sensory feast.
Audiences were immersed in the sordid rise and fall of Dawn Davenport (played by the incomparable Divine), whose chaotic life of crime begins when she is denied a pair of cha-cha heels for Christmas. Across ten scents (including infamous highlights like “skid mark” among many other ignoble odors), the screening brought Waters’ trash masterpiece to new olfactory heights.
The event was met with raucous enthusiasm. Audience members called it “the most fun experience I’ve had at the cinema,” “a riot of a film… gag-worthy but laugh-inducing,” and “an amazing cinema experience for a movie with so many golden moments.” For some, it was even “a top tier cinema experience” that could not have been imagined any other way.
